Thuringwethil was the vampiric servant and herald of Sauron in the Silmarillion.

A potential Thuringwethil, though her iron claws do not appear.

Of Beren and LúthienEdit

Thuringwethil's shaping cloak was stolen by Lúthien, who used it to disguise herself until she reached Angband. Without it, her powers were mostly destroyed. She probably died with the destruction of Beleriand in FA 583.

Like the rest of the Vampires, Thuringwethil was a spirit (like Sauron and in non-canon works Gûlavhar and Carcharan) corrupted by Melkor before the Shaping of the Earth. She took bat-like form, though she did not drink blood.
