Richter Belmont (リヒター・ベルモンド Rihitā Berumondo, Richter Belmondo) is a descendant of Simon Belmont. He is a renowned vampire hunter. He is the main protagonist of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and has reappeared frequently as a supporting character in later games. Every generation of the Belmont Clan has produced tougher, more dedicated vampire hunters — yet Richter stands as one of the most powerful in the family. Brandishing the legendary sacred whip which so many of his predecessors wielded, this hot-headed youth pushed Dracula to the brink.
History[]
Richter Belmont first appears in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, released for the TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine) in 1993. Set in 1792, the game introduces Richter as a young, brave vampire hunter who embarks on a quest to rescue his fiancée, Annette, and his adopted sister, Maria Renard, from the clutches of the dark lord Dracula.
Richter is the great grandson of the esteemed Simon Belmont, a legendary vampire hunter known for his victory over Dracula in earlier games. Richter’s character is defined by his strong sense of duty and unwavering courage, traits that make him a formidable adversary against the forces of darkness.
Character Design and Abilities[]
Richter’s design is emblematic of the classic Gothic hero, sporting a blue and white outfit that underscores his role as a noble warrior. He wields the Vampire Killer, the iconic whip that has been a signature weapon of the Belmont clan for generations. This weapon is not only symbolic but also practical, imbued with the power to vanquish supernatural foes.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, Richter is noted for his agile and powerful combat style. His whip attacks are complemented by a range of sub-weapons, such as holy water and the axe, which are crucial in tackling the various monsters and bosses that populate the game’s environments.
