A Moroi is a type of ghost or vampire originating from Romanian folklore. It is described as a dead person that has returned from the grave to feed upon the life force of the living. Moroi are commonly associated with strigoi, another type of vampire, often described as the offspring of a strigoi pairing.
Some descriptions depict moroi as looking no different than how they appeared as living humans, whereas others describe them as being more beast than man, appearing horrifically ugly and covered in excess body hair. A female moroi is known as a moroaică (pl. moroaice).
Moroi is the term for undead vampires, who rise from the grave after being drained of their blood by another vampire; strigoi are defined as "living" vampires, humans who are infected
