Lowerniel Drakan is known to be the vampyric overlord and conqueror of the majority of the Morytania region in Runescape 3. Drakan has adopted many titles to assert his authority, among them being the Prince of the Blood and Regent of the Sanguine Fields. He has also been referred to as His-Dark-Self and The Dark Lord. One of the most powerful vampyres to have ever set foot on Gielinor, he has, since the Second Age, been an active force in various military operations.
History[]
Drakan was originally brought over by Zaros, the god of control into the main world of Gielinor through a world portal and his forces played an important role in the empire's conquests. Zaros taught vampyres the concept of civilization which he learnt from the Chthonian race of demons on Infernus. His age is unknown, but the first accounts of his existence date back to the early Second Age, making him at least 8,000 years old with a year of service to Zaros of atleast one millennium. Later on he aided Zamorak's betrayal of Zaros and was promised the land known as Morytania which he invaded and subjugated, making it into an area for vampyres to live. The motives were unknown, but in exchange for his assistance to Zamorak, he was permitted to do so. Lowerniel Drakan was also despatched later on by Zamorak to bring Azzanadra into the fold. He found him praying. Azzanadra refused to go, believing Zaros to still be alive. One of Azzanadra's guards, Titus, attacked Drakan with blood magic, causing a fight to break out. Drakan easily overpowered Azzanadra's guards and chased one who fled.
Drakan conquered Hallowvale, overwhelming its human and Icyenic inhabitants, and renamed the region Morytania, transforming its capital into a blood-farming ghetto and was thought to have corrupted the land. The same blood tithing policy enforced by imperial law under the Zarosian Empire to feed its vampyre citizens was thus also implemented in the region. Darkmeyer was also likely built in accordance to imperial architecture that vampyres were familiar with when the majority had served under the empire. His reign has been marred by violence, including, amongst countless others, the Fall of Hallowvale which was his conquest and the other wars where human forces attempted to liberate the region from his conquest which were: The Misthalin - Morytania War, the Morytania Campaign, and the Sanguinesti Liberation War. Additionally, his actions indirectly led to the Zamorakian Insurrection following the War of 164, although he was not involved with that, unlike his sister Vanescula and the vampyre noble Tenebra.
Despite his immense importance to both ancient and modern history, Drakan has managed to remain unseen by the public eye during much of his reign until The Lord of Vampyrium.
As of 169 of the fifth age, Drakan was killed on the roof of his castle by an adventurer, who recently secured the help of The Myreque and Vanescula herself. The Myreque and their allies have caused the deaths of many vampyres, including Dessous, Vanstrom Klause and Lowerniel's two brothers, Draynor and Ranis.
In Runescape 3, he is the primary antagonist of The Myreque quest series, playing an unseen overarching role in the first five quests of the series, as the main antagonist of the sixth quest and the posthumous overarching antagonist of the seventh and final quest.
