(Kra-VOY-jac)

Variations: Kropijac, Krvopijac, Obors, Obours, Opiri

This Bulgarian word is both a generic word used to describe a vampire as well as a specific species of vampiric spirit.

This vampire is created when a person who dranks wine or smoked during Lent dies.

For 40 days after becoming a vampire the creature remains in the grave to allow its now skeleton to form. The resulting body looks like it have one nostril and has a barbed tongue with which it can drink blood. While it can eat normal food when it moves sparks appear revealing it for what it really is.

To discover the grave of this type of vampire one leads a black foal ridden by a nude adolescent of proven virginity. Then the foal balks the grave has been found. The vampire can kept in its coffin by putting wild roses in it and garland used to tie the coffin shut. One must then seek out a Djdadjii (a type of vampire slayer) who will bottle the vampire’s spirit and destroy it in fire.

Varieties of Vampires tweeks this to being a cleric but it is more or less the same.

GURPS Blood Types has Krvoijac (Bulgaria) and no other details.
