Countess Elyra Barovna was a vampire descended from a long line of circus performers. Her legend unfolds when a traveling circus passes by her ancestral castle, and the circus director, intrigued by the renowned family of artists, decides to pay a visit. There, he is greeted by the young and enigmatic Countess Elyra, who expresses enthusiasm about joining their European tour.
Upon integrating into the circus, Elyra quickly reveals her ruthless nature. She orchestrates the death of a fellow gymnast to secure a solo act and later uses her supernatural abilities to incite a lion attack on a rival animal trainer whose performance overshadowed hers. Her thirst for dominance extends beyond mere sabotage—one night, she attempts to kill a wounded performer, only to be confronted by the circus strongman, with whom she had developed a rapport. Their struggle attracts the attention of other performers, forcing Elyra to flee.
Determined to exact revenge, she returns days later to eliminate the strongman. However, her plans are thwarted when the circus director intervenes, throwing knives at her. One of the blades pierces her heart, causing her to vanish. The circus troupe later discovers her lifeless body inside the coffin she had brought with her on tour, confirming her true vampiric nature.
Countess Elyra Barovna appears in Big Top Nightmare, a story featured in the comic book series The Hand of Fate.
