Count Dracula, a Transylvanian vampire who has made multiple appearances in The Simpsons, often portrayed humorously in both canon and non-canon episodes. He is based off the character of the same name from the book Dracula by Bram Stoker.
History[]
Canon Appearances[]
Dracula is a recurring member of the Springfield Republican Party. He first appears in "Sideshow Bob Roberts", depicted as a small, grotesque, green-skinned vampire. In later appearances, particularly at the Republican Party headquarters, he adopts a more traditional vampire look—an elegant figure with white skin. However, in "Brawl in the Family", he is briefly shown with the series’ signature yellow skin.
Despite being a long-time member of the Republican Party, Dracula is not well-respected among his peers, as his ideas are frequently dismissed as foolish. Additionally, he appears to be responsible for ordering pizzas for the group, but his constant mix-ups—allegedly due to being "half this, half that"—contribute to his unpopularity.
Non-Canon Appearances[]
Dracula has also appeared in multiple Treehouse of Horror segments:
- In "Treehouse of Horror V", during "The Shinning", he is seen alongside other classic monsters, adopting the white-skinned vampire appearance later associated with his Republican Party version.
- In "Treehouse of Horror XX", he is depicted with a more serious demeanor and yellowish skin. In this segment, he is part of a group of outdated monsters (including Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Werewolf) who attempt to attend the Simpsons' Halloween party dressed as Iron Man, only to be thrown out by their wives.
- In "Treehouse of Horror XXI", he is introduced as Edmund’s father, featuring a more detailed design similar to his Treehouse of Horror XX counterpart. He is invited to dinner at the Simpsons' house but later joins Homer in chasing after Edmund and Lisa to Dracula-La-Land. In an attempt to stop Edmund from turning Lisa into a vampire, Homer attacks him, prompting Dracula to intervene. To save Lisa, Homer willingly allows them to bite him, but both Dracula and Edmund collapse due to the high cholesterol in his blood. This version of Dracula also appears in The Simpsons: Tapped Out video game, maintaining his Republican Party affiliation.
- In "White Christmas Blues", his Treehouse of Horror XX version is seen as a figurine.
- In "Treehouse of Horror XXIV", he joins other monsters in attacking humans during the opening sequence.
Additionally, in The Simpsons Game, during the Algerian mission of Medal of Homer, Abe Simpson warns Homer and Bart about the possibility of Dracula lurking in Algeria.

Trivia[]
Dracula has also been depicted in parody roles within The Simpsons:
- In "Treehouse of Horror IV", Mr. Burns takes on the role of Count Dracula in "Bart Simpson’s Dracula".
- In "Treehouse of Horror V", Dracula is one of the ghouls haunting Burns’ mansion in "The Shinning".
- His original design closely resembles Count Orlok from the 1922 silent film Nosferatu, but in later appearances, he adopts a style inspired by Bela Lugosi’s portrayal in the 1931 Dracula film. His appearance becomes more detailed over the seasons.
- Dan Castellaneta, who voices Dracula in his Republican Party appearances, also voiced Count Dracula in the 1993 Animaniacs episode "Draculee, Dracula".
