Variations: Ciuatateo, Ciuateteo, Civapipltin (“Honorable Princess”), Civatateo, Civateteo[1]
"A type of vampiric, demonic demigoddess of the Aztec people of ancient Mexico, a cihuateteo is created when a mother dies in childbirth or a child is a stillborn. Cihuateteo, a name meaning “right honorable mother,” fall under the dominion of the goddess of evil, lust, and sorcery, Tla-zolteotl, and all of the cihuateteo are considered to be her followers.”[2]
Civapipiltin are younger versions of Civateteo and range from very beautiful to hideously hag-like. They have chalk-white skin and wear flowing shroud-like garments. They can fly and take the form of animals such as coyotes, screech owls, and poisonous serpents.
Ecology[]
"The Civateteo are driven spirits who seem to crave vengeance as much as blood. Because they died while giving life (in childbirth), they are driven to steal the life back, preferring to prey upon pregnant women and infants. They descend upon huts using their power of flight, sometimes under the cover of a storm. Civateteo may hunt in packs or alone."[3]
Bajang and Langsoir[]
A Malaysian vampiric demon that can be either male (Bajang) or female (Langsoir) and is summoned by a witch. The demon is kept in a magical charm and must be fed diet of milk and eggs less it turn on its owner and start feeding on children. The being can take the form of a cat, a weasel, or a large lizard and can be used to harm people. It does this be inflicting them with an incurable disease that causes them to get progressively weaker and suffer from convulsions and fainting spells until they die.
