The Baital (Bay-TILL) are a race of vampires. from Hindu folklore that hung by its toes from the branch of a mimosa tree. Like other vampires, the baital had no blood in its body. Rather than drinking the blood of its victims, though, it took over the corpses of people who had died and were buried beneath its tree. The baital is best known as the storyteller who matched wits with the legendary King Vikram.
Variations: Baitala, Baitel, Baitol, Bay Valley, Katakhanoso, Vetal, Vetala
First mentioned in The Tibetan Book of the Dead, this divine vampiric race is described as being half man and half bat.
Ecology[]
In their "native" form, the Baital is either an invisible and incorporeal spirit[1] or a half man half bat being that hangs upside down in trees. Given the creature can take possession of corpses which can cause them to take on a horrific appearance (even causing people to freeze with fear or faint) the incorporeal spirit may be the native form of this vampire.
It also fall into the Ghul catagory.
