Asanbosam or Sasabonsam is a vampiric being originating from Ashanti tribe folklore in Ghana and Togo, West Africa.
Appearance[]
Asanbonsam are described as having long, spidery limbs ending in sharp iron hooks which it uses to cling to high branches and attack unsuspecting prey from above. Its skin is black and bat-like, stretched taught over its limbs, and sharp fangs protrude from its gaping mouth.
They can be encountered in thick forests and jungles along the west coast of Africa where they consume any form of prey; small or large.
Ecology[]
Asanbosams hide in the canopy and descend upon the necks of their victims to drink their blood. In order to maintain their teeth, Asanbosams need to consume large quantities of iron (usually by drinking blood), and sharpen their teeth upon certain kinds of rocks when not hunting or mating.
